San Antonio to Elgin, Texas for TMRA2 meeting

This last Saturday, two of my sons and I rode up to Elgin Texas for the district advisors meeting of the "Texas Motorcycle Rights Association" www.tmra2.org a bi-partisan organization). The meeting was open to the public and about 1/4 of the attendees were just ordinary riders like ourselves. The meeting was quite informatory and a number of bikers running for offices in the state were mentioned as needing support. Current issues were discussed especially the recent insurance changes that make it possible for companies to deny health insurance coverage to people who they think engage in dangerous activities such as riding motorcycles. Currently, an employee of SwRI and their dependents have health coverage that extends to motorcycle riding but that could change in the near future if not enough bikers speak out and get their state reps to support them. Attending the meeting was State Representative Norma "Da Lady" Chavez from El Paso, a female biker who represents House District 76.

The trip up was uneventful. After the meeting we discovered the "Krazy Horse" restaurant in historic old Elgin where they have "All You Can Eat Catfish" and build your own burgers like Fudd Ruckers but less than 1/2 the price. Price for value was exceptionally good and the fixings were worth the trip up there. On the way back thru Austin we were treated to an incredible light show as lightening started hitting all around us. We got soaked heading south from Austin and the rain didn't let up till we got to San Marcos with the lightening keeping the highway visible. We actually stayed pretty dry until we had to exit the expressway on account of an accident and got stuck at a light in San Marcos.  There is more info about this meeting here.

Next time I attend one of these bikers meetings I will have to remember to bring my handguns so I can plink with the rest of the bikers.  Don't want to be the only unarmed biker at a meeting like that.
