SwRI riders club (www.researchriders.org)
met at 10am at the Pig Stand on Broadway
for breakfast,
then assembled downtown at 11:15 with judging at
noon and parade not starting until 2pm. Beautiful day, not a cloud in the
sky, forgot to bring suntan. Myself on BMW R1100RT, son Brian on
mini-pocket-rocket. Total of 13 bikes: 2 dirtbikes and that
mini-pocket-rocket. Still picks from parade here: . We were the last group
and the black unmarked vehicle behind us is the one I usually see on the
expressway giving out tickets. I noticed that one rider had expired
plates but no one else saw that. Brian and I had Leprecon outfits on,
complete with orange beard and bowtie. What I thought was an Elvis
impersonator driving around on a Harley turned out to be our "Rey
Feo" himself. He easily handled the Harley, 2up, weaving in and out
and around us while we were waiting for the parade to start. At last
moment, wife Terri and other son Joseph decided to ride with us instead of
watching. I took Terri, who filmed from the back with a camcorder and Joseph
rode with Scott Meckel..

The
parade went exceptionally well and the kids really liked the Leprecon
outfits. During the parade Brian got did some wheelies for the kids by
standing up and just raising that small "pocket motorcycle" in the
air while spinning the rear tire. When the parade was over we walked thru
the La Villita area and were stopped by several tourists who wanted to take
pictures. One kid asked my wife if she had caught a Leprecon..."No,
but he caught a pot of gold". My bike overheated right at the
end of the parade and we left it parked next to the "Rey Feo" limo to
let it cool off. Next time I will take the VStar 650 which should not
have the overheating problem.
Terri took about 10 minutes of movies from the back of the R1100RT. You can right click and download the full movie or any images you want.
